People who don't cherish their elderly
have forgotten whence they came
and whither they go. ~Ramsey Clark

Chop Wood, Carry Water
"It's the "chop wood, carry water" thing that inspired Rick Fields' book.
The story goes that the Master was asked what he did before enlightenment. He replied "I would carry water and chop wood." So the students ask what he did after enlightenment, and he said, "I carry water and chop wood." In other words, we're supposed do the lovely, ordinary tasks the day presents. On your way to success and recognition and dreams coming true, you chop wood, carry water. On the days when success looks unlikely and you can hardly remember what your dreams were about, you chop wood, carry water. It's grounding. And humbling. And satisfying. And enchanting."

"We do not stop playing because we grow old...we grow old because we stop playing."
The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed 'control' and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.
It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.
I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.
In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'
So, if inside your 'Inbox,'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy,''Scan' and 'Paste' her
And send her back to me.

A Friend
"When we honestly ask ourselves which persons in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, would stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is the friend who cares.

Thought for the Day
"If one should give me a dish of sand, and tell me there were particles of iron in it, I might look for them with my eyes, and search for them with my clumsy fingers, and be unable to detect them; but let me take a magnet and sweep through it; and my, how it draw to itself the almost invisible particles by the mere power of attraction! The unthinking heart, like my finger in the sand, discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day, and as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings. -- Henry Ward Beecher"
"To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow."...
today I planted a flower..in fact, I planted several flowers...
my beautiful purple petunia's died ??? and most of the marigolds ??? so I've started over...the plumbago is hardy, drought resistant, loves the sun and blooms all season...as well as the lantana and bougainvillea (in hanging baskets)..
I was sitting at my computer desk and looked out the window in time to see a red bird perched in the planter beside the pink vinca....'took off before I could get a picture...

It was a dark and gentle night...The trees were filled with ghoulies and ghosties carring brilliant orange pumpkins filled with tasty treats. The smell of burning candles filled the air. The sounds of footsteps and children's laughter punctuated by screams of "Trick or Treat" could be heard floating across the whispering breeze. LOOK OUT! Was that a monster from under your bed? Or just your neighbor dressed in costume...Only the shadow knows for sure....
