The Seven Deadly Sins and The Fruit of the Spirit

Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy, and Gluttony..is one of my weeknesses

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; ...
—Galatians 5:22-23

I have much love in my heart, I'm patient and kind...but another of my weeknesses is self-control.

I spend too much money (when I had it)...and I exercise little self control when it comes to eating...

all that to say...I'm in big trouble around here...

Now I ask you, who among you can  say yes to this

and say no to all these goodies...?

Sunday...the Lords Day

As soon as Bob is feeling better and I'm more comfortable leaving him with someone else I'll go back to church with Barb occasionally...I miss worship.

Yesterday it was sunny and not so cold and Bob felt like going out for a ride.  Barb drove us around out in the country for about an hour..he enjoyes seeing the rolling countryside, the country homes, the farms...etc. Friday we went for a ride in town..(Huntsville)..through the historical district...lovely old homes, well maintained and  landscaped...in the spring when the azaleya and dogwood are bloosing it is beautiful. I recall once when I was here, with Laura, we took a buggy ride through the district...if I was on my computer I could show some of the pictures I took then. Our "stuff" should be arriving tomorrow but 'probably won't hook up my computer until we get into our cottage...looking forward to seeing Laura, Laura Beth, Eddie, Bobby and Bryan for a few days. Hopefully this summer when the boys are on summer break they can come stay for a week or two.

This afternoon Barb is giving me a haircut and perm...and her dad a haircut...so nice to have a many talented daughter who is a hair stylest :)

Oh Little Town of Bethleham"...verse 3

"How silently, how silently
The wonderous gift is given
As God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will recieve Him still
The dear Christ enters in."

early morning view at our house

Shortly after taking this picture..when it had lightened up a bit..we saw 6 young deer run across the back..the last, smallest one, lagged behind...hobbling a bit...afraid it had been hit but had heard no gunfire.

Today is going to be a good day...today is going to be a good day...today is going to be a good day...believe it...

Barb finished wrapping presents in the nick of time..her family open presents on Christmas Eve

The best Christmas gift ever..and I mean this in more ways than one..

Peete's Landing

It was a long day...by the time we arrived even I needed a wheelchair :) AA allowed Barb and her family come back to the gate...even allowed Barb to come on the plane and assist us. They did the same thing in Dallas.

Barbara worked on wrapping presents that evening..while Bob slept and I just sat back and watched.

The carpenters worked on Monday

By the time they finished on Monday they had most of the framing
completed

Boys will be boys...

...today (Tuesday) they got the truses up...

Bob enjoyed watching from the back porch and the kitchen.

Miracle on the Hudson

I enjoyed reading this...maybe you will also.

Dec 15th 2009 By Jeanne Sager

The miracle of a perfect landing for US Airways Flight 1549 by hero pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger wasn't the only "Miracle on the Hudson" this year.

A month after the plane met geese mid-air and was forced into an emergency landing in the middle of the river bordering New York City, passengers Ben Bostic and Laura Zych met, thanks to 60 Minutes. The TV news magazine staged a reunion of the crew and the people saved when the flight to Charlotte, N.C., dropped down into the water.

"I saw Laura on [the day of the flight] in the airport. I'm single, so I just noticed her," Bostic told Lemondrop. "She was attractive. She stood out. I boarded my plane, sat in 20A, took out a book, noticed her coming down the aisle. Thought I might be lucky and have her as a 'seat mate.' As you would expect, she sat in 17D, instead. Any other flight that would have been the end of it."

Then came the emergency landing, and photos of Zych were everywhere -- especially on Facebook where the survivors quickly connected. Bostic kept an eye on her via the Internet, and six months after the crash, they met again, this time "for real" at a survivors get together.

"We've been dating ever since, and it's been amazing," Bostic says. "We've lived, laughed, danced and loved like two people who know tomorrow isn't guaranteed."

The holiday time is special for the newly minted couple, but Bostic says they got their gift back in January. "We treat every day as a gift," he says. "Being around those you love during special times is obviously important . . . family/friends/holidays . . . but we don't even take Monday mornings for granted."

And they're not the "second miracle," Bostic says, they're each just one of 155.

on a brighter note

I'm mad as hell !!##!*!!

Cancer cannot cripple love...shatter hope...corrode faith...kill friendship...suppress memories...invade the soul...steal eternal life...
BUT STILL..

I'm mad as hell...
Chemotherapy and radiation ravage the body...robbing it of all familiar and treasured things.. the smile gone from his face is replaced with a furrowed brow...his eyes opened only occasionally, and then just wide enough to observe cloudiness and pain...his evening snoring has now become quiet moaning or mutterings...interrupted by choking because he's unable to swallow..

I'm mad as hell!!

The hours he loved to spend just sitting, studying the Bible.. contemplating with a free mind directed toward God...his heart filled with thanksgiving to Him for all that He has blessed us with...now his days and nights are spent lying in bed, striving to escape from his present condition through drug-induced sleep.

I'm mad as hell...

His treatments have robbed him of so much...
He can no longer drive, take his walks, swallow, talk without discomfort..(so he doesn't talk)...... He can no longer view his favorite Fox Cable News, Bill O'Riley, Texas Longhorn sports events...attend church on Sundays...share time with his buddies at PBC on Saturday morning prayer times and Monday evening bible study...attend the monthly Care Group meetings with our Christian friends, sharing a meal and just spending time learning to love each other....

I'm mad as hell!!!

We no longer drive over to Braums for a dip of chocolate chip ice cream, or go to Del's for a mushroom burger and home-made root beer,or enjoy a nice lunch at LaMadalines', or meet up with our boys and their kids at Keller's Drive In for a Sunday night burger and Corona...or take in an occasionally movie...the man who always attempted a conversation with whomever he came in contact with..who "could talk to anybody", now wants to talk to nobody..

I'm mad as hell!!

It was a simple life...but it was OUR life..

All this..and maybe

JUST MAYBE

it will destroy the cancer...no guarentees though...

I'm mad as hell !!!

I caved...

I looked out our patio door ..across the pool ..and saw into an apartment with a  beautiful christmas tree, glistening with white lights...I couldn't stand it!!! I had to open one small box of my christmas decorations and put some things out...so now ...amid the mess and clutter of moving ...no window treatments, no pictures, no home decor of any kind  my "bar" is aglow with "some of my favorite things"

The wax, scented carolers were a gift to  us way back in the 70's...they've shriveled down somewhat over the years but still retain the lovely pine scent that they started out with. The Starbucks Christmas mug was a gift from Laura just last weekend.

The wooden, three piece christmas tree was a gift from my brother Ed...also many years ago. He can make all kinds of wood art...from bird houses to kitchen cabinets and more.

I manaaged to clear off the counter and dared those three guys working here to just try and and clutter it up with their keys, glasses, wallets, phones, coffee cups....

My sweet, goofey brother, Nick, kept on working long after the other two left  :) He drove up from Houston to help me out for a couple of days...and say goodby  :(

Yesterday afternoon Bob felt well enough to go outside and he even walked around the pool and greenbelt area !! He's really been feeling punk for the last few days...has spent most of those days either in bed or sleeping on the couch.

inspired (again) by the Cyberspace Dawdler

by the way, Alan G...I checked into the meaning of your cyberspace name...
Dwadler–verb (used with object) . to waste (time) by or as if by trifling (usually fol. by away): He dawdled away the whole morning.

I just wanted to gain some insight into the type of person I've been cyber stalking.
P.S.
you inspire me to write better..
"P.S" shouldn't I say "postscript"
"write"...shouldn't I say "post, compose, articulate?"
"better"...shouldn't I say "improve?"
"say"...shouldn't I use the word ....."?

come on, help me out here..it's people like you who make me act like this...

The Real Santa Clause
whatda I tell you...same Santa every time...even the same body language...

on parting

by: Charlotte Bronte

THERE'S no use in weeping,
Though we are condemned to part:
There's such a thing as keeping
A remembrance in one's heart:
.
.

When we've left each friend and brother,
When we're parted wide and far,
We will think of one another,
As even better than we are.
.
.
We can burst the bonds which chain us,
Which cold human hands have wrought,
And where none shall dare restrain us
We can meet again, in thought.

So there's no use in weeping,
Bear a cheerful spirit still;
Never doubt that Fate is keeping
Future good for present ill !

This past evening our dearest friends, JoAnn and Paul, came to tell us goodby. She kept repeating, "I wasn't going to cry!"...but we did...considering our age I'm sure we must have both been thinking we would never see each other again...
I believe the year we met was 1960...in the picture below we were next-door neighbors...Kim was her oldest (sitting between my Barbara and Laura)...and her (then )youngest, Paula Sue is the first in line of these neighborhood childen..

Here we are in 1968...the years of "big hair"...

In 1973 we moved to California and this picture was taken of their family the evening we were over to tell them goodby...Our Laura was a senior in high school and was to graduate in just a couple of months and she stayed there in Dallas with them until after graduation and finding a job...then she moved into her own apt. It was very hard leaving her but we were so grateful that she had a good home with good friends to stay with.

We lived in California for only two years and then were transfered to Chicago where we were throughout the 80's..as our two oldest children still were living in Dallas we were able to visit with Paul and JoAnn on our trips back home.        1984

In 1988 we were transfered back to Texas and lived in Plano...

1989..mother, JoAnn, Paul, Bob and friend from Chi, Sue

2003 at their home in Rowlett

2004 at our home in Garland

2005 July 31st..at Laura's 50th. birthday party

with their grandchildren...2007

Last night she brought us a gift...not the first time by any means...

JoAnn is a wonderful gifted person...she loves to quilt...has made dozens that I know of...well, I have my own now...look at this lovely quilt she brought me...

we will miss you but expect to see you in Alabama soon...
